Privacy policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026
This policy explains what RetroForged ("the app") collects, why, and what you can do about it. RetroForged is made by Octobot Studios Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17513714, registered office 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom). We are the data controller for the anonymous statistics described below.
We have tried to write this in plain language. If anything is unclear, email support@octobotstudios.com and we will answer.
The short version
- We do not ask for your name, email address, or any account. There is no login.
- We do not know who you are. With your permission, the app sends anonymous gameplay statistics tied to a random number generated on your device.
- Your saves, settings and high scores live on your device, not on our servers.
- The free app shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may use data about your device to show and measure ads, as described below.
- We do not sell your data.
What the app stores on your device
All of this stays on your device and is removed when you uninstall the app:
- Game progress: levels unlocked, stages completed, stars, high scores.
- Settings: music and sound volume, control preferences, and similar.
- Purchase state: whether you have bought Remove Ads.
- A random install identifier: see below.
We cannot read any of this remotely.
If Android backup is turned on, Android may also copy your game progress, settings and purchase state to your Google account, so they come back on a new phone or after a reinstall. That backup is held by Google and we cannot see it. The install identifier is never included in it.
The install identifier
The first time the app runs it generates a random 32-character identifier and stores it on your device. It is created from random data. It is not derived from your device, your hardware, your phone number, your advertising ID, or anything about you, and it cannot be traced back to you or to any other app.
It exists so that anonymous statistics can be grouped into sessions, so we can tell "one player played ten games" from "ten players played one game each". That is what tells us whether a level is too hard.
If you uninstall the app, the identifier is deleted. If you reinstall, a new and unrelated one is generated, and we have no way of connecting the two. This holds even when Android restores your saves from a backup, because the identifier is left out of it.
What the app sends to us
Only if you agree when the app first asks, and only when connected to the internet, the app sends anonymous gameplay and app events. Each batch contains exactly:
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Install identifier | The random value described above |
| Build version | Which version of the app you are running |
| Platform | The broad platform only, e.g. "Android" |
| Screen size | Width and height in pixels |
| Session time | How long the app has been open |
| Timestamp | When the event happened |
| Event details | The game played, level reached, score and similar gameplay facts, and app events such as an advert being shown, the Remove Ads purchase, or the rating prompt being offered |
That is the complete list. These statistics do not include your name, email address or any contact details, your phone number, your location, your device's advertising ID, your contacts, photos, files, camera or microphone. Our server necessarily receives your IP address when the app connects, but we do not store it with the statistics.
We use this only to understand how the games are played (which levels people give up on, which are too easy, which features go unused) so we can improve them. Our lawful basis is your consent.
Advertising
The free version of RetroForged shows occasional full-screen adverts between games, never during one. Adverts are provided by Google AdMob. To choose, show and measure adverts, and to prevent fraud, Google may collect information such as your device's advertising ID, IP address, device type and the adverts you see and tap. Google processes this under its own policies: see how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Some games also offer optional adverts that you choose to watch in return for a reward, such as coins in Moon Raiders or a continue in Snake and Lander.
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, the app uses Google's consent form to ask whether you agree to personalised adverts before any are shown. You can change your choice at any time from Settings › Privacy Choices in the app. If you say no, you may still see non-personalised adverts, which use limited data.
If you are in a US state with a privacy law (such as California), you can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for advertising from the same place: Settings › Privacy Choices in the app.
You can remove all adverts permanently with the one-off Remove Ads purchase in Settings. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings › Google › Ads.
Purchases
Purchases (such as Remove Ads) are handled entirely by Google Play. We never see or receive your payment card details. Google Play tells the app only whether a purchase was made, so it can unlock what you paid for.
Children
RetroForged is a collection of arcade and puzzle games for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app has no chat, no user accounts, no user-generated content and no way for players to contact one another.
Who else sees the data
- Amazon Web Services hosts the servers that receive and store the anonymous statistics, on our behalf.
- Google distributes the app and processes purchases through Google Play, and provides adverts through AdMob, under its own privacy policies.
- Google Play also shows its own rating card from time to time. Any rating or review you leave goes to Google Play; the app only learns that the card was offered.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.
How long we keep it
Anonymous gameplay statistics are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. Because the data is not linked to you, we cannot identify or extract "your" records from it.
Your choices and rights
The first time you open the app we ask whether you want to send anonymous statistics. Nothing is collected or sent before you answer, so choosing "No" means nothing ever leaves your device. You can change your mind at any time: open Settings from the main menu and switch Anonymous Stats on or off. Turning it off stops all collection immediately and discards anything gathered but not yet sent.
If you are in the UK or the EEA, data protection law gives you rights over personal data about you, including access, correction, erasure, and objection. The honest position is that the statistics we hold cannot be linked to you, so in most cases we cannot locate "your" records to act on such a request. Uninstalling the app deletes the install identifier and breaks any link between your device and past statistics. See Delete my data for step-by-step instructions.
If you are unhappy with how we handle data, please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be announced in the app's release notes.
